Applicants must be at least 18 years old. To ensure effective participation in the course, learners are required to demonstrate proficiency in English across speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Training centres must have processes in place to assess each learner’s competence in English.
Learners should possess English language skills at a minimum of:
- B2 level on the Home Office’s list of recognised English tests and qualifications
- B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
- An ESOL qualification at Level 1 on the Ofqual register (England, Wales, or Northern Ireland)
- An ESOL qualification at SCQF Level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) in Scotland
- Functional Skills Level 1 in English
- SQA Core Skills in Communication at SCQF Level 5
- Essential Skills Wales Communication Level
